I rolled with Jeff Chan.

He's a pro MMAfighter who has a big YouTube channel.

But what most people don't know about him is that he's also really good at JiuJitsu and is currently a brown belt.

He has an explosive style and really good back takes.

Let's see how I do...

Immediately he shows the speed by quickly stepping back and looking for a leg lock but my knee is free, so I'm ableto reach around his waist, come up andstart looking to take his back.

I control his hips as he gets up and I throw myleg in as a hook.

I try looking for the choke but he stands up.

Now we're in this awkward position where I'm basically just acting as a backpack.

But he notices that I've committed the crime of crossing my feet from the back.

So he sits down and starts looking to hip in for an ankle lock.

This is why your coach always tells you not to cross your ankles from the back.

However there's note nough pressure for me to tap.

So I started looking for the finish.

I shoot my arm across his neck to look for the choke, but he's able to get his chin inside and use his other hand to pull it down.

Jeff does some great hand fighting and is able to come up to his knees.

Hestarts building his base up.

I notice this his neck is open, so I tried going for the choke but he blocks it.

At this point, holding on here is becoming really tiring, so I release my hooks and Jeff reaches around for a takedown.

But I keep attacking.

I come up and start looking for an arm bar.

I throw my leg over, however Jeff does a good job posturing up and is able to rip out ofit.

All of a sudden Jeff shoots past my legs.

This was not looking good.

But by using the old reliable; "get your knees in front of them" technique, I'm able to defend.

I go right back on the offensive.

I bring my leg over his head and starting to look for an arm bar.

But he'sable to pull out once again.

So I grab behind his thighs and start looking to take his back.

He falls down to defend and I see the back take isn't there anymore, so I get up.

But his foot slips and he's able to stiff arm me and comeback up himself.

Here you get to see my horrible wrestling on full display.

I try inverting under him but he just starts High stepping out.

[nope nope nope]

Jeff starts putting on that pressure once again.

He drives forward for a knee slice but I'm able to maintain the distance with my frame.

But that wasn't the end of him trying to pass my legs.

He hooks under my thigh then he drops his shoulder down and tries coming around.

Jeff's guard passing was relentless

But I try to make sure to keep my kneeup as a shield, to stop him from closing in.

He says "enough of this", he grabs under my leg and spins around for a leglock.

I'm about to be put into a "Reap" here which is a really hard position to escape.

So I take his leg to the outside, bring my leg over and start looking toreverse this with the leg lock of my own.

This is a dangerous spot for the both ofus.

Either of us could get tapped here.

As we roll, he unlocks his legs and I try grabbing his heel, but he slips out...

I grab his leg and I can tell the sweatis starting to build up.

It's becoming harder to keep my grips.

He hits a slick back step and starts looking for a leglock.

He wants to grab my heel here, but I turn away to hide it.

But by turning away so much I left my back open... so he grabs around my hips.

I try bringing my weightback, but he frees his legs and comes up to Turtle.

This is not where I want to be against an MMA fighter, so I roll over my shoulder and start pushing him away to get my knees back in front of him.

He postures up so I lock my hands behind his back, but you can tell Jeff has a lot of experience because of how quickly he's able to pummel his hands inside.

He starts stepping his legs up so Iswitched his single leg X, but Jeff just gets the heck out of there.

He goes through the same pass he tried earlier, but I'm able to defend it by bringing my knees inside as a frame.

I've done this a lot during a roll, and this is what's been saving me from getting my guard passed.

I talk more about how to do thisto my free guard retention guide.

Istrain out my leg to free myself from his grip.

Jeff reminds me that if this was an MMA fight this would go very poorly for me.

Jeff falls back for another leg lock.

This is the hard thing about grappling an MMA fighter.

Even though I get on top here, Jeff is trained getting back to his feet so many times that he's able to get up.

Our next roll got recorded vertically, but this is also the role where things really start getting intense.

Jeff spins around for another leg lock, but I'm able to slip my knee out.

I tried countering the same way I did before.

Last time it worked out pretty well... this time not somuch...

I over commit and Jeff is able to jump around to my back.

He wants to get his legs inside his hooks here so Ikeep my elbows tight.

To counter this he comes up and inserts his foot inside.

Then he pulls me back

This was looking pretty grim, but as he gets a second hook in, I quickly turned my hips to clear his bottom hook.

Then I started fighting his hands.

He tries pulling me over to the other side, but Iquickly pull my elbow in and start spinning it.

It looked like I was about toescape, but then I just end up in Mount.

But I don't stay here for long.

For Mount, I like to Bridge and shake my opponent off.

And bring my feet inside.

This will make my upcoming Bridge more powerful.

Then I bridge and shake my legs to get them off me.

I had escaped but I still felt like I was on the back foot.

Jefftries pressuring in, but I use my foot to bump him forward, then I invert under him

He falls down and I start trying to get up, but the arm drags me.

I'm trying tokeep Jeff down on the mat here but he'sreally making it difficult for me.

Hepushes me away with both his feet and stiff arms me to get up.

At this point Ijust accept the fact that I'm on bottom.

Iconnect my shin to his shin, then I start trying to get under him.

I control his second leg but Jeff just kicks that legout of there.

I connect my foot to his hip, but Jeff pushes that off and steps around.

From here I'm like "oh crap",

but notice I frame with my arm then bring my knee inside.

I got my second the insideand from here I'm feeling pretty safe.

That is until Jeff starts putting onthat passing pressure once again...

I snap him down but he pulls out.

I grab his ankle and start trying to off balance him

I bring my foot to his far leg and I start getting behind him, but he steps out

So I tried coming up for a takedown.

But this does not work out for me, he threatens a choke...

then as I Turtle todefend, he tries spinning behind me butthis time I fall to my back, lift him upand enter into a leg lock.

But Jeff brings his weight back and I'm forced to let go.

Jeff attempts a rolling Kimura, butknows how to pull my arm in this stops him from locking it up.

I try enteringinto single leg X again, but Jeff is ableto jump out of it.

I try grabbing on to Jeff but he gets a collar tie.

So I grab behind his head myself.

I pull him backand throw my legs up to lock up a triangle.

I tried keeping his posture broken but Jeff starts standing up.

Then he throws his legs over to counter.

He breaks out the triangle.

I clear his feet off just as the round ends.

Big thanks to Jeff for doing this awesome roll with me.
