Hi!
First of all, thank you for taking the time to check out my post!
I wanted to take time to explain my teaching methods and beliefs behind them.
If I were to summarise them into points, they would be:
Learning through immersion
Filling gaps in knowledge
Encouraging comprehensible input
Building confidence

IMMERSION = to be completely surrounded by something
Surrounding ourselves to the language is a key part of the learning process.
Luckily, you don't need to study abroad to achieve this!
In fact, taking lessons with a native English speaker is one of many ways to achieve this!
We can further benefit from immersion through:
Reading in English (native articles / books / transcripts)
Listening in English (podcasts / audio dramas / music*)
Watching in English (Youtube / movies / lectures)
*music is good exposure but may effect pronunciation
Where I help is:
Recommending English material to use based on your student profile
Applying the English learnt through relevant conversation topics
Answering any questions you may have and offering guidance to the language

A common thought with languages is that it is a "straight path":
"I've been studying for __ years so I should know ___ vocabulary, grammar forms and how to speak in different situations"
Acquiring a language is more interesting and diverse.
A student, who is good at casual conversations, may want to focus on technical language.
Another student, who uses English in business, may want to practice English in other topics such as politics or culture.
We can personalise a learning path to reach your goals.

COMPREHENSIBLE INPUT = to understand messages
A large part of language is understanding, rather than memorising words and phrases.
When you understand a new sentence, your brain will pick out the new vocabulary and grammar structures.
Example:
"My sister tied the knot last weekend! The wedding was beautiful"
Although the idiom, "Tie the knot" may be unknown, we might be able to understand what it means based on the context:
[Tie the knot + wedding = to get married]
Acquiring a new language is filled with these moments of understanding.
Through continuous immersion and discussion; we can achieve comprehensible input!

Learning a new language is about having fun and expressing yourself!
As we have conversations about a wide variety of topics, your exposure to English increases, your range of vocabulary and phrases becomes wider and your confidence in English improves!

Asking questions and making mistakes are an important part of learning!

This is how I think when I am teaching!
Thank you for reading until the end and I hope you found this useful!
Looking forward to seeing you soon!
